Legendary Chennai Super Kings (CSK) icon Suresh Raina has firmly stated that MS Dhoni will suit up for the franchise again in the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) amid speculation about possible retirement.
The 2025 IPL season happened to be CSK’s worst. The five-time champions failed to qualify for the playoffs and took home the wooden spoon with their batting unit lacking the usual punch. Dhoni looked far from his prime.
This led to widespread speculation that the 2025 season might have been MS Dhoni’s final outing as a player. Several former cricketers and commentators suggested it was the right time for CSK to begin planning for life beyond Dhoni.

Suresh Raina has given fans a glimmer of hope regarding MS Dhoni’s future in the IPL. Speaking during a recent interaction, Raina, who is set to make his acting debut, said,
"He must be preparing himself also but definitely he will be playing one more year. He is coming to Chennai again."
This is not the first time Raina has hinted at Dhoni’s extended career. Over the past few years, Raina has often backed his former captain to continue.
Given Raina’s close friendship with Dhoni, his words have carried significant weight. Many believe Raina would not speak so confidently unless he had some insight into Dhoni’s mindset. However, until Dhoni himself addresses the matter, his plans for 2026 remain uncertain.

Amid the silence from Dhoni’s end, reports have begun doing the rounds that CSK are looking to bring in Sanju Samson to their squad. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain has consistently been among the league’s most impactful Indian batters.
There are strong rumours that CSK have shown interest in trading for Samson ahead of the 2026 mega auction. While no official communication has been made by either franchise, insiders believe that CSK want to strengthen their batting unit and sign a prominent wicket-keeper as Dhoni’s career is nearing its end.
