The Indian Women's Cricket Team is set to cross swords with the Sri Lankan women in match one of the tri-nation series on Sunday, April 27, at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. This will be an exciting and challenging series, as all three teams - Sri Lanka, India & South Africa—have a golden chance to finalize the playing XIs ahead of the Women's ODI World Cup set to be held in October in India.

India is coming off a twin ODI series win against Ireland and the West Indies. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka created history by beating the New Zealand women at home. Both teams have momentum, but India starts as favorites, owing to their sheer depth with bat and ball.

After a break of three months, India will gear up for what will be a pretty hectic season, which will culminate with the Women's World Cup. The India players have played the Women's Premier League (WPL 2025) season and have had two training sessions before the ODI tri-series. The onus will be on the experienced players - Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, and Renuka Thakur—to make the most impact. These four players have also shown good form in ODIs in the last year or so.

India has also included uncapped all-rounders Kashvee Gautam, Shuchi Upadhyay, and Sree Charani in the team. They have also recalled Yastika Bhatia and Sneh Rana to the team. Overall, the squad looks well-balanced with match winners in it.

On the other hand, the Lankans will look to make the most use of playing at home. The onus will again be on skipper Chamari Athapattu to anchor the batting lineup. They have also called up uncapped spinner Malki Madara. Piumi Wathsala and Dewmi Vihanga are also uncapped players included in the squad.
