Shubman Gill Nominated As The ICC Player Of The Month In July 2025

Shubman Gill has had a fabulous last two months as the captain of the Indian Test team. In his very first assignment as Test captain, he drew the Test series against England 2-2 and helped India get their first points in the WTC 2025-27 campaign.

He also had a series to remember with the bat in England as he scored 754 runs and broke several records in the process. He scored four centuries in the Test series.

Shubman Gill became the first Indian Test skipper to win a Test match at Edgbaston and then followed it up with a series-levelling win at The Oval. He is in the same league as Steve Smith and Joe Root after scoring 754 runs in the Test series against England.

Shubman Gill In The Same League As Steve Smith, Joe Root

Gill has joined Smith and Root among batters with most runs in a WTC Test series. He spoke after winning the Player Of The Month in July.

"It feels great to be named the ICC Player of the Month for July. This time it holds a lot more significance since it has come for my performances during my first Test series as captain. The double ton in Birmingham is obviously something I will cherish forever and will be one of the highlights of my tour to England. The Test series against England was a learning experience for me as captain and we had some outstanding performances from both sides, which I am sure players from both sides will remember for a long time.I would like to thank the jury for selecting me for this award and my teammates who have been with me during the course of this exciting series. I look forward to continuing my form in the season ahead and bring more laurels for the country” Gill said.

The Indian skipper has joined a few other glorious names from the Indian team to have won this award by the ICC. He joins the elite list with names like Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Shubman Gill To Be Vice-Captain In Asia Cup 2025

Gill has now won the ICC Player Of The Month award four times. Bumrah and Shreyas have won it twice, while the other players in the list have won it just once. On the back of Gill’s fabulous form with the bat and his leadership skills, the team management is backing him to replace Rohit Sharma as India’s next ODI skipper. As per reports, he is likely to be the vice-captain in the Asia Cup 2025.
