Kannaur Lokesh Rahul was born on 18th April 1992 to K.N. Lokesh and Rajeswari in Bengaluru, Karnataka. He comes from a well-educated family; his father is a professor and former director at National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) while his mother is a professor at Mangalore University. He also has a sister named KL Bhavana. Rahul grew up in Mangalore and started cricket training from the age of 10.

Beginning of KL Rahulʼs Cricket Career

Domestic & IPL Debut

Rahul debuted for Karnataka in first-class cricket in the 2010-11 season. He was also a part of the 2010 Under-19 World Cup. He performed consistently and even scored a double-century in the 2013-14 Ranji Trophy season. His experience in first-class cricket set him up for his venture into the senior team.

The Indian cricketer made his debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013, where he served as a wicketkeeper-batsman. He was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 1 crore in 2014, where he stayed till the end of the 2015 season. He returned to RCB once again in 2016. In 2017, he missed the IPL season due to an injury. Upon his return, he was acquired by Punjab Kings for Rs 11 crore, and he stayed there from 2018 till 2021, captaining the team since 2020. He then shifted to Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 17 crore as a captain, and then joined Delhi Capitals in the latest 2025 season of IPL.

Rahul made his international Test debut for the national team in the 2014 Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground against Australia (26th December, 2014). Although his first match wasn’t impressive, he amassed a century in his second Test match ever, making a clear statement after scoring 110.
